Jim Robertson: Sober October Wk 4, Made It! Print E-mail

Well Yipee! Sober October is finally over and was totally alcohol free. My first thought was for Bender November, but that would have defeated the purpose.

I fully intended to crack a red on the stroke of midnight on the 31st. But you would have to know that I fell asleep. It’s now the first 5 days of November and guess what – still no drinkies. Had a great Melbourne Cup Eve function on Monday (Didn’t pick the winner – as usual), champagne and females with fascinators flowed on Cup day, went for dinner with friends on Wednesday and all with lemon, lime and bitters. Not bad eh!

I am losing weight, and keeping up the exercises, unfortunately when washing the dog on Sunday she slipped when I was picking her up, went to grab her and really pulled my back out. It was definitely Buffy’s revenge. Still hobbling a bit, and a real urge to loosen up with a Sauv Blanc, but my intention is keep going until Christmas. It really doesn’t matter to me whether I make that or not, the big surprise for me is that I don’t need to have a glass. I am still getting the same enjoyment out of the things I do without a grog. I know that if I want a wine with dinner I can have one, and I would now rather not – and not from any thoughts of being a wowser. A strong incentive is to see if I can lose another 4 kgs. If I do then I would be sure that wine does put the pud on. So far I am surprised at how and where I have lost the weight. My pants now fit better, and I certainly don’t need to get a larger belt.

Dry July and Sober October only take up 2 months of the year, and I would recommend to all that it is easier that you might think – and will be beneficial to you.

Slanthe- Cheers

Jim
